Taco Bell Nutrition...
An Oxymoron?

Taco Bell nutrition is a tough sell.
They provide a decent graph of the Nutritional information in their products here. Taco Bell Nutrition Chart

There is a wide variety of Menu items which can be customized for dietary reasons.
Removing cheeses or sauces can really cut down on the calorie count of some dishes.
But, that completely changes the flavor of the dish.

Personally, I like to leave the formulation of ingredients for flavor to the food designers back at corporate. I enjoy what I eat here, and I have plenty of options to keep from going over board. But, if I want to go whole hog and take in some serious protein and spare calories because I plan on burning it in a workout soon thereafter, this can be a great place to eat as well.

My biggest concern on Taco Bell's nutrition Chart is the HUGE amount of sodium in these products. 2230 grams of sodium in a Southwest Steak Border Bowl.
Sounds really good, but I really don't need that much salt.

The lowest calorie foods available on the menu happen to be some of my favorite snacks.
The Crunchy Taco weighs in at 170 calories and 10 grams of fat.
And the Soft Taco (beef) adds on another 50 calories.
Having 3 taco's and keeping it crunchy brings you to 510 calories without a drink.

Or go for a Single Taco, and some Nacho's for a 490 calorie lunch with 30 grams of fat.

Sadly, I have to stay away from Taco Bell's Chalupa's, since I like to eat 2 of them.
They weigh in between 350 to 430 calories each, blowing a major portion of my daily calorie intake.

Gordita's aren't quite so bad, coming in between 270 and 350 calories each. Making one of these and a crunchy taco a reasonable, fast meal with an Iced Tea to wash it down.

Here is one restaurant where getting a Salad can consume 860 calories and 46 grams of fat for a Fiesta Taco Salad.
It seems slightly more reasonable if you drop the shell to get down to 490 calories and 25 grams of Fat.

TacoBell and Nutrition don't have to be an oxymoron if you take a little time to look at what you are about to consume.

Unfortunately, if you are trying to stay on a 1200 calorie diet, or have high blood pressure, this is a tough place to fit into your meal plan.

Eat out, and enjoy, but buyer beware.
